Visceral Fat – Visceral fat, also called as “deep fat” is found around the internal organs in the abdominal cavity. This type of fat is caused by consuming high amounts of refined carbohydrates, alcohol, trans fats and saturated fats and can lead to a higher risk of many health issues, including cancer, stroke, heart attack, dementia, and high metabolic syndrome.
Subcutaneous Fat – Subcutaneous fat, also called as “soft fat” is located under the skin and outside the abdominal cavity and is often the fat we see around the waist, thighs, hips, and buttocks. Subcutaneous fat is essential as it acts as a cushion between muscle and skin tissue for protection and comfort and also as an emergency backup in case of starvation or caloric deprivation. However, too much of this fat, particularly around the abdomen, runs the risk of increased health complications.
